So, yesterday, I mentioned how Groupon can be very love-hate for business owners. Well, last night I seem to have gotten some of the hate :(
Our newest escape room location in Norcross had been running a Groupon before we took over. We had asked them to stop running it.... and of course they did not stop. So, last night, someone bought the Groupon deal ($144 for a package that is normally about $180).
From that $144, Groupon gets $72, leaving us with $72. Minus out labor ($20) and a portion of rent, utilities, etc. and there is not much of that left.
Bother's the kicker. We don't have any way to redeem that Groupon, and if we don't officially redeem it... We apparently don't get paid. And if we do get paid, it's going to the old owner anyway.
And of course, none of this is the customer's fault, so we have to let them play for free, regardless. And BYW, we know there are more Groupon sales out there that fall under this same issue... not good.
