It amazes me, how many people producing videos for clients, video blogs and even sales videos for million dollar products, don't use a decent microphone! You can get a great one for $20!
Heck, these are so cheap that I actually give them to clients, so they can shoot their videos with decent sound.
Believe it or not, the #1 reason people switch away from a video is poor sound quality. Numerous studies have shown, people will watch a badly shot video, if the audio quality is good, but people will leave even a great video, if the sound is bad.
And with the simple, inexpensive options available, what the heck are you waiting for?
I love all the cool video products that have come out, to make videos easier, but NONE of them will have as much impact ob your videos, than quality sound!
So, here are a few options that will help you out.
Smart Lavalier Microphone - This is what I use nearly EVERY DAY! A lapel mic that works on your smartphone, tablet, computer and camcorder. This is not a normal off-the-shelf lapel mic... those normally don't work with smartphones... this one does, and it's under $20!
Wireless Lapel Microphones - For those that are more mobile with their shooting, and having a cord is not the best solution, there are wireless lapel mics. When getting a wireless mic, be sure to get a 'UHF' mic, and not a 'VHF'. VHF are cheaper, but have less range, and are much more likely to pick up interference. Unfortunately, these mics can be
expensive, normally $200-1200. However, we have a great wireless mic, that I use all the time, and it is under $150

A third type of mic that I use is a vlogging mic. This is a small 'shotgun' mic that is mounted on your camera or smartphone, and captures only the sound directly in front of the mic, even when they are a short distance away. This is perfect for those 'run and gun' situations, and is similar to what a news reporter might use when chasing someone down :)
