Well, fortunately, I now have a local business that I can test these kinds of things on. And right now, social media (mostly Facebook) has been one of the only real changes that we can measure, since we were already #1 on GMB.
But for the last 2.5 weeks, I have taken their somewhat dead page and added daily content, along with calls to action, and the results are pretty amazing...

As you can see, simply by posting interesting content frequently, we have seen large increases in the number of people viewing and engaging with our content.
But of course, none of that matters, unless we are also getting more customers.... which we are...
Prior to us taking over, sales were about $1500 in a week
When we took over, we doubled that to $3000 (this week was even higher)
Given that Facebook and other social media were the only things we did that had an impact in reach, it shows that by posting content, and engaging the audience, you can QUICKLY increase influence and sales.
Further proof of that is that in many of our posts we included a unique coupon code, which was redeemed numerous times, proving that people found us through Facebook (and now Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest).
